Born on St. Patrick's Day 2007, what else could we call him? Born when no one was around he was up and nursing before we were aware of his arrival. His medium fawn coloring was both a surprise and a delight as his dam is white and his sire, beige.
The Leprechaun had to wait a couple of months before he had any playmates and then he was always the leader in the nightly pronking and general fun time in the pasture. A playful alpaca, he always looked as if he had been up to some sort of mischief making.
Now, he has developed into a well conformed young male, with a zest for life. Shorn as a cria to keep cool in the Kansas summer heat, we were delighted with the re-growth on his fleece. He has a bright fleece (when you look beyond the dust) with high frequency low amplitude crimp and medium density. He has good coverage and uniformity throughout.
His dam, Arwen is maitaining her low micron, following in the footsteps of her grandam, PPPeruvian Relevance, who had an AFD of 24.5 at age 13 and consistently produced offspring who had low micron fleece which was maintained as they matured.
The males on his dam's side are also noteable - PPPeruvian Yupanqui, CL 9 Meteor and PPeruvian Demetrio. His sire, Chase Tavern 24K Gold is the son of 4Peruvian Altiplano Gold, a multiple blue ribbon and championship producing herdsire of extreme quality. Lots of great genes in this young man's makeup!
